Sleep is one of the most important requirements of a human body. Sleeping is required for complete functioning of our bodies. Sufficient rest helps our body organs, muscles and tissues to work well. However, sleeping the wrong way can often lead to a lot of physical complexities. Wake up on your right side
The heart lies on the left side of your body. Since heart helps in pumping blood to the rest of the body, it is primarily responsible for all your metabolic activities. When you sleep, your body is on rest and hence on low metabolism. When you wake up, you should always roll over and get up on your right side. This makes sure that you don’t force your body to increase its metabolism rate instantly. At the same time, waking up on your right side puts less pressure on the left side.
Rub your palms once you wake up
You would have heard from your elders that rubbing your palms once you wake up is always a good habit. You would have also seen that before starting something new, we have a tendency of rubbing our palms and getting down to work. This has a reason. Your palms have numerous nerve endings. These nerve endings when rubbed with each other can bring your body into action. When you wake up, if you rub your hands, it can get your body to start functioning without any extra pressure.
Different sleeping positions

The fetus position
This is a very comfortable position for people who have problems of slipped discs or herniated discs. Fetus position keeps your body in such a way that there is a gap between the herniated disc and vertebrae. This reduces the pain and gives you a comfortable sleep. To sleep in this position, roll over to either your right side or your eft side. Then gently pull your knees towards your chest. The position resembles a baby inside his or her mother’s womb.
The pillow lover
This position generally involves a person sleeping on his or her back with a pillow under the face and another pillow under the abdomen. If you have back problems, pains of dislocated back joints, sleeping in this position might help. However, make sure the pillows are neither very hard, nor very soft. Keep the pillow near your head in such a position that you can breathe while you sleep.
The stomach position
This resembles the last position but minus the pillow under the abdomen. People love sleeping on their stomachs with their head on one side. 7% of the whole world’s population sleeps in this manner. It is said that such people are generally extroverts who love talking a lot and are not very open to external comments. These people might have snoring issues.
The straight sleeper
Though the name might sound a bit funny, people who sleep straight with their hands and legs adjacent to each other have the best sleeping position in the world. This makes your body function well. 8% of the total population sleeps this way. It is said that people who have this sleeping posture are reserved, responsible and have a charming personality.
The starfish position
This is when people sleep with their hands and legs randomly spread around them. It is said that people who sleep in this position like being alone. They don’t want to be the talk of the crowd and are known for being good listeners. These people, however, have snoring problems.
The log position
An unusual name but a usual sleeping way, a person sleeping in a log position generally faces either the right or the left direction with a straight posture. This position is good to cure snoring issues but might increase body pain if you have arthritis issues. It is said that such people are trustworthy and true friends.
The spooning position
Spooning position is when couples sleep, one behind the other, holding each other. It has been observed that this position brings about hormonal changes that help in reducing stress and promote better bonding between couples.
