One of the worst parts about being a woman is pretty much having your period knock at your door every month. Blackstrap molasses

This is an amazing remedy that can help in providing a lot of benefits for helping ease menstrual cramps. Molasses is rich in contents of manganese, magnesium, potassium, iron, calcium, vitamin B6 and selenium which can help in reducing the number of blood clots as well as soothes the muscles in the walls of the uterus to provide relief from cramps while menstruating. Adding a teaspoon or two of molasses to a cup of warm milk can help with easing the pain of the cramps. Consume this mixture as needed. If you are lactose intolerant, try almond milk.

Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea is an amazing drink that can provide a lot of antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory benefits that can help in relaxing the muscles of the uterine walls to ease the contractions that can lead to pain during your periods. You will need to add some boiling water in a cup with a tea bag of chamomile tea. Cover the cup and let it sit for around 10-15 minutes and add some honey or lemon juice as needed, remove the tea and stir to combine. Drink around 2 cups daily during and a week before getting your periods.


Parsley contains myristicin and apiol, substances that have been studied for their effectiveness at stimulating your period and helping in relieving the intensity of cramps and can help in regulating the irregularity of your cycle. Chop around 1/4th cup of fresh parsley and place it in a tea bag. Put the teabag in a mug and add a cup of boiling water. Let the tea steep for around 5 minutes and add some honey. Remove the tea bag and consume the tea twice daily during the days of your periods to minimize the pain and calm your body and mind.


Flaxseeds can help in controlling the intensity of your cramps and contain a lot of essential fatty acids that are useful in stabilizing the rate of progesterone in the body. The seed is also known to aid in the improvement of your overall uterine health and boost your rates of fertility. If you are suffering from cramps, you can consume around 1-2 tablespoons of flaxseeds with salads, yogurt, cereal or even in a smoothie. You can also consume them as a snack with some lime juice and paprika spread over them as a healthy snack option to reap the benefits.

Lavender oil

Not only does lavender oil smell incredible and help with so much of the mental pressure and anxiety that comes with periods by its aromatherapy properties, it can also help you relax and sleep better. You will need to dilute around 3-4 drops of lavender oil with a teaspoon of jojoba or coconut oil and apply this mixture to the back and lower abdomen. You can also use a fragrance diffuser to inhale the vapours. Use this remedy twice daily.

Green tea

Green tea is an excellent remedy that can help calm down the uterine cramps. Green tea is rich in its contents of flavonoids and catechins that are excellent sources of antioxidant properties. It has also been studied for the presence of analgesic (pain relieving) and anti-inflammatory properties which can help combat the period pain. Add a tablespoon of tea leaves to 1 cup water, bring to a boil for 3-5 minutes and strain. Let the mixture cool down thoroughly and add some honey to enhance the flavour. Drink the tea while it is still hot and use the remedy 3-4 times daily for best results.
