How serious is torn / Ruptured aorta

Aorta is the largest artery in the body and rupture of aorta is extremely dangerous. Rupture /torn of aorta is a rare condition. Aorta may tear when the inner wall of it is damaged. Commonly, it may happen in the chest aorta and in the abdominal aorta. When aorta is torn or ruptured, it is divided in two channels. Through one of it, blood moves continuously. This rupture of aorta is very common in the chest portion and also in the abdomen of the human body.

Cause of tear of Aorta

Foods to avoid clogging of heart arteries

If the human body sustains continuous high blood pressure, then the blood vessels are likely to be susceptible for tearing the walls. The child may be born with the weak and enlarged aorta. This condition may be termed as Marfan syndrome. Other rare symptoms may be associated for weakening the blood vessels for rupturing of the aorta.

How dangerous is the Aorta Rupture

When aorta rupture takes place, the main blood vessel from heart is divided in two parts and branches off the heart. In this condition, blood surges come out from the heart. When the tear appears on the wall of the main blood vessel, the condition is serious. As tear increases, blood starts flowing between the two layers of the blood vessel wall. The condition may be fatal due to huge bleeding from the aorta. When the walls of aorta are weakened and the walls rupture, blood will be flown away from the organs, tissues and can cause problems like kidney failure, stroke, and heart attacks and even to death.

Is it possible to survive after Aorta Rupture

As it is already stated that aorta rupture is life threatening, it is to discuss that how can one survive with aorta rupture. The person can survive, if the person is undergone a surgery before the aorta rupture. The less than half of the people survive after the aorta rupture. The persons who survive need high level lifelong treatment of high blood pressure.

What may happen after Aorta Rupture

The persons who have aorta rupture or tears severely near the position of heart, mortality rate is less than 20%. After rupture, if the patients are left without treatment, they will die within 48 hours. For this aorta rupture, the patient should be treated with immediate effect. Spontaneous healing is not possible after aorta rupture. Surgery with long term treatment may lead to the survival of the patients. The most important point to be noted is that the patient with aorta rupture should be treated well to keep the blood pressure in the controlled condition.

What happens after rupture of Aorta

When the inner lining of the aorta ruptures, tear may appear and the blood starts splitting out away from the muscle layers of aorta. The patient may feel chest pain or some ripping pain in the chest. The associated symptoms may be nausea, sweating, weakness, shortness of breath.

Types of Rupture

Top ways to improve your heart health

There are two types of rupture in aorta. The types are Type A and type B. Type A can be treated only with surgery and type B can be managed with medication only. Aortic rupture can be arrested by the preventive measures like avoiding smoking, controlling of blood pressure level, controlling diabetes, lowering of levee of cholesterol and these may be the key factors of controlling of aortic rupture.

What is dissection of Aorta

Actually, aorta is the large artery coming out of the heart. This aorta is carrying the purified blood through it. If the dissection of the aorta happens, it implies that blood will be splitting out of the aorta from the inner layer to the middle layer of the aorta after it tears in the inner wall. Blood hemorrhage may also take place from the small vessels in the case of rupture of the vessels providing blood supply to the outer and middle layers of aorta. In this way, the inner layer of the aorta is also weakened. Ultimately, the inner wall of the aorta can tear and dissection of aorta takes place.

Actually, the dissected channel makes the flow out of aorta. Ultimately, the dissection of the aorta can lead to fatal complications like the rupture of the dissected aorta or the blockage of blood flow in severe manner. The normal blood flow may be stopped. Fatal complications may arise, if aorta dissection turns to rupture of aorta. These complications may happen, if the blood is spitted and dumped in the space near heart and lungs. In the case of aorta dissection, you may have multiple chest pain and immediately take the medical care.

Symptoms in case of dissection of Aorta

It is very difficult to assess apparently whether it is dissection or simple heart attack. In the case of dissection, at the back side of the chest repeated manner of pain may be felt. In addition to the chest pain; there may be feeling of something tearing inside. Unlike the heart attack, the chest pain starts suddenly when the dissection is started and the pain starts moving around.

Other symptoms may be as follows:

  • Breathlessness
  • Sweating
  • Paralysis may be one side of the body
  • Trouble in speaking
  • One arm may be of weaker pulse than the other
  • Confusion or dizziness
  • Fainting

If anybody faces these types of symptoms, then may immediately take action for medical treatment. So, it may be concluded that rupture of aorta may lead fatal complications and even death.
